SEEK, the daily word search game
SEEK is a daily word search you can play online for free. Each day has a theme, such as Kitchen, Weather or Ocean. You get a list of words to find in an 8 by 8 grid. Words run in any of 8 directions, forward, backward, up, down and on the diagonals.
There is a twist. Every letter in the grid belongs to a word or to a hidden word. Find all the listed words, and the letters you did not use spell one more word about the theme. Type it to finish. A puzzle takes about four minutes, and everyone gets the same one each day.
How to play
- Drag your finger or mouse across a word in the grid. The line snaps to a straight row, column or diagonal. You can also tap the first letter and then the last letter.
- On a keyboard, use the arrow keys to move, press Space or Enter on the first letter, move to the last letter, and press Space or Enter again.
- A word you find is crossed off the list and gets a colored band in the grid. Find words back to back for a combo.
- When every listed word is found, work out the hidden word. The letters that no listed word uses, read left to right and top to bottom, spell it. The game does not point them out for you.
- Type the hidden word and press Check. You have 3 guesses. A hint shows the first letter and costs one star. You start with 3 stars.
- Share your result as a grid of colored squares. It shows the theme and your guesses, not the words.
Tips
- Start with the longest words. They have the fewest places to fit, so they are the easiest to spot.
- Look for uncommon letters first, like Q, Z, X, K and J. Then check the squares around them.
- Scan backward and diagonally. Most missed words are reversed or run up and to the right.
- Words never share a letter, so a letter you have already used cannot belong to another word.
- Stuck on the last word? Look at the letters that are not part of any found word. They are the only place it can be.
- Use the theme to guess the hidden word early. The leftover letters can confirm it.
Questions
Is this word search free to play online?
Yes. SEEK is free, has no ads that block the grid, and needs no account. Open the page and play. It works in a phone or desktop browser.
How is this different from a normal word search?
The grid is small, 8 by 8, and has no filler letters. Every letter is either part of a listed word or part of the hidden word. After you find all the words, the leftover letters spell one more word about the theme.
Can words go backward and diagonal?
Yes. Words can run in all 8 directions: left to right, right to left, up, down and the four diagonals. Words never overlap or share a letter.
How many puzzles are there?
There is a new daily word search every day, and you can replay past days from the archive. Themes include kitchen, weather, ocean, garden, space, music, sports and many more.
How do I play with a keyboard or screen reader?
Click the grid or tab to it. Use the arrow keys to move, and press Space or Enter on the first and last letter of a word. The game announces each letter, its row and column, and each word you find.
