SCRAMBLE, the daily word scramble game

SCRAMBLE is a daily anagram game. Each day you get seven scrambled letters. Make words of three to seven letters, using each tile once. The letters also spell one common seven-letter word, and finding it is worth the most points.

There is one free puzzle every day, the same for everyone. A round takes about three minutes. Words are checked against the ENABLE word list. There is nothing to sign up for.

How to play

  1. Tap the tiles to build a word, or type on your keyboard. Press Enter or tap Enter to submit. Backspace or Delete removes the last letter.
  2. Every word needs at least 3 letters, and each tile can be used once. Tap Shuffle to move the tiles around if you are stuck.
  3. Points grow with length: 3 letters score 1, 4 score 2, 5 score 4, 6 score 7 and 7 score 15.
  4. Your rank goes up as you score: Beginner, Good, Solid, Sharp and Genius. The bar shows how many points each rank needs. The target is a share of the most points possible that day.
  5. Finding the seven-letter word does not end the round. Keep going for a higher rank, and tap Finish when you are done. Share your rank as a row of squares. It does not show any words.

Tips

Questions

What is a word scramble game?

In a word scramble you rearrange a set of letters to make words. SCRAMBLE gives you seven letters each day and asks for as many words as you can find. One of them uses all seven letters.

What is an anagram?

An anagram is a word made by rearranging the letters of another word. For example, "listen" and "silent" are anagrams of each other.

Is there a new puzzle every day?

Yes. There is one free daily puzzle, the same for every player. Past puzzles are in the archive. Archive puzzles do not count toward your streak.

Which word list do you use?

Words are checked against the ENABLE word list, a public-domain list used by many word games. The seven-letter answer is always a common word, but any valid seven-letter word from the same letters counts too.

How are ranks worked out?

Each puzzle has a maximum score, which is every valid word you could make. Your rank is the share of that maximum you reach: Good at 10 percent, Solid at 25, Sharp at 45 and Genius at 70.
